Do you remember learning about citation in LANG 1403  or LANG 1404? You have already learn APA style. As Science Student, you are goins to learn one of the Science Citation Styles, ACS style. To better manage your citation, citation tools and citing AI content are introduced.

Generate Citations

With a citation generator, you enter your source bibliographic information in order to produce a citation in your selected format that you can copy and paste into your paper. There are lots of free citation generators on the web to choose from, here is a selected list of citation generators:

If you have many references to handle and hope to reuse them in your future work, we suggest you use reference management software instead.

Reference management software

  • lets you create your own database of the references you collect while searching the literature
  • has a plug-in to automatically format the citations in a Word, and produce a list of references at the end of the document formatted in the style of your choice (e.g. APA, IEEE, MLA). 
  • share your references with your teammates or collaborators

Citing AI Generated Content

At present, most citation styles do not have specific guidelines for referencing ChatGPT or other GenAI tools. Some publishers (e.g. ACS Publications ) stated that Artificial intelligence (AI) tools do not qualify for authorship. However, it does not mean that you can use those AI tools without any acknowledgement or disclosure. You should

  • Check to see how their professors, publishers, or academic peers  want such acknowledgement to be made.
  • Carefully review and edit the results, because AI can generate authoritative-sounding output that can be incorrect, incomplete or biased.
