Many databases and websites offer current awareness services to help you keep up-to-date with the latest news and literature in your research areas.

What is RSS

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary.

It is an XML protocol designed for "syndicating and aggregating" Web content, such as blogs, what's new lists, etc., that are updated regularly.

Subscribe to RSS Feeds

You need to use a RSS feeds reader/aggregator to track the RSS feeds. There are different kinds of RSS reader:

To subscribe to RSS feeds:

  1. Look for the the RSS/atom/xml icon or link (examples) on webpages such as RSS Feeds @ HKUST Library.

  2. Right click the icon (or link) to copy the url.
  3. Login to the feed reader to add a subscription, the following example shows subscribing a feed using Feedly

  1. Click "Add Content"
  2. Select Sources
  3. Paste the rss url
  4. Click FOLLOW
  5. Create a COLLECTION for the feed if necessary
