Durable Links to Electronic Resources: Home

This guide shows you how to make durable links to electronic resources the Library subscribes to. You can put the links on your course websites.

About Durable Links

  • A durable link is a scripted URL that lets you retrieve a specific electronic book, journal or online article directly
  • The scripts in the URLs automatically authenticate your access via HKUST Library subscription. The links are valid both on and off campus
  • All HKUST Library scripted URLs begin with http://library.ust.hk/cgi/db/...
  • For example, a link to an electronic book may look like this: http://library.ust.hk/cgi/db/ebooks.pl?enb/1024

Use and Restrictions

Durable links can be used in many ways. They can be:

  • shared with other HKUST members
  • used in online teaching platforms, e.g. LMES
  • used to create electronic reading lists or bibliographies
  • incorporated in Word documents, presentation files and other types of documents

Due to the license agreements, off-campus access to electronic resources via durable links is only available to HKUST students, faculty and staff. You will be prompted to provide your ITSC account login for authentication via the EZProxy server.
